Mission statement/vision:

School plays a crucial role in your child’s development. Throughout this period, you’re entrusting your child to your school of choice: a Christian school with an excellent atmosphere and a learning environment that suits you and your child.
At Vlinderboom, we take the talents and potential of every child as our starting point. Science and technology are an essential aspect of our educational approach and children are familiarised with this in the XperiO ontdeklab (discovery lab). We adapt tuition to the learning needs of each individual child. As a caterpillar transforms into a beautiful butterfly that takes flight, Vlinderboom helps your child become an individual who makes independent choices, discovers opportunities and creates new possibilities.

Octant operates eight Christian schools in nine locations. Octant schools are characterized by their endless striving towards growth. We focus on growth through quality improvement every day. Staff regularly attend school themselves: our own academy, at which teachers and staff receive training that helps them become even better at their tasks, is just one way in which we realise our ambitions. We improve quality by constantly adapting our teaching to today’s society. We place an emphasis on science and technology. Three core values provide the bedrock for all our efforts: 'Self-awareness', 'Learning through discovery' and 'Durable togetherness’.

Science & Technology
In today's world, computers and algorithms play an ever-increasing role. Understanding how computers work is becoming increasingly important. Skills such as critical thinking and creativity are also becoming increasingly important. We therefore want to prepare pupils for the future, a future where for example robots are going to do more and more work for us. That is why science & technology is an important subject for Octant and this is reflected in our education in various ways.

Octant has set itself the goal that all pupils and teachers are 'digitally skilled' in 2019. Digital skills mean a combination of computational thinking, media literacy and information skills. Information skills are skills that help you find, find, assess and process information on the internet. Often the term '21st century skills' is used for this. We believe that these skills are essential in the further (school) career of our students.

In the lab XperiO, teachers and pupils become acquainted with ICT and technology. A technical lab has been set up next to the XperiO. The two labs together complement each other perfectly to make children more capable in computational thinking and challenging them to design and create (maker education).

The goal of XperiO is to inspire teachers about science and technology and to challenge them to apply this in their own lessons.  Teachers learn about applications for developing 21st century skills, research and learning design and experience the effects that this have on the learning of their pupils.

Octant started with the deployment of tablets at its schools. Working with tablets is supportive of the digital learning path that is provided by Octant and is further developed at school levels. The media literacy specialist plays a major role in this, together with the educational ICT specialist. On the tablets, the youngest pupils explore areas of language, arithmetic and fine motor skills. The older students use the tablets for personalized learning and assignments on their own level.

School subjects planned to be involved in DEIMP project:
We intend to include the DEIMP-project througout every school subject and themes.

Number of teachers involved: 7-8

Previous project experiences: We have no previous experience with a ErasmusPlus KA 1 grant application but are very much interested in participating in a grant application for DEIMP job shadowing and the course attendance. We would like to offer our colleagues the opportunity for job shadowing and are open for hosting colleagues from other DEIMP-project-partners.
